Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science is proud to announce that chemical engineering alumnus Avi M. Nash G’77 will serve as their 2018 Convocation speaker. He will address graduates during the ceremony on Saturday, May 12 at Manley Field House, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Nash has more than 40 years of experience in the chemical industry and corporate finance and investing. He is the founder and managing director of Indian River Advisory Corporation, an investment management firm. From 2003 to 2013 he advised top global chemical companies on acquisitions and corporate strategy. Earlier, Nash was a partner of Goldman Sachs where he helped lead the firm’s global chemical industry effort over a 17-year period.
Nash has played an instrumental role in dozens of mergers, acquisitions, and initial public offerings, and helped shape the strategies of some of the world’s leading chemical companies. While at Goldman, he was consistently ranked as the top investment research analyst covering the chemical industry. Prior, Nash’s career was split between Booz Allen & Hamilton (strategy consulting) and UOP (petroleum-refining technology, marketing and business strategy).
In addition, Nash served as a director & audit committee chair of a Fortune 500 life-sciences global leader. He chairs two charitable foundations in the US and India active in education, healthcare, and vocational training. He also serves on the board of several other organizations, including Ashoka University, India’s first liberal arts university.
Nash is a strong supporter of Engineering and Computer Science, providing financial support on a number of initiatives including the construction of several state-of-the-art collaborative classrooms.
He earned an MBA from Northwestern University, an MS in chemical engineering from Syracuse University, and was named a distinguished alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He and his wife reside in Connecticut and have three children.
