Professor Phoha on President Obama’s “Timely” Cybersecurity Initiative Proposal

February 10, 2016

Professor Vir Phoha provides commentary on the inclusion of $19 billion for a national cybersecurity initiative in President's Obama's proposed budget: "The President's proposed $19 billion cybersecurity initiative provides a timely action to boost cybersecurity. The initiative has the right components: education—by containing initiatives to prepare college students; creation of agencies like the Federal Privacy Council to review how personal information is digitally stored; and the establishment of a commission to enhance national cybersecurity. We don't know the composition of the commission yet, but hope that it will encompass homeland and external cybersecurity issues. This initiative will boost research and development as well as product development in cybersecurity."
