Aging infrastructure, water quality and scarcity, finding sustainable energy solutions, and protecting the environment for future generations. These are just some of the challenges facing our world that can be solved by civil and environmental engineers.
The global demand for civil and environmental engineers is growing and evolving. Whether it be a career in industry or in research, our Department is committed to preparing students to pursue their individual goals.
Our faculty are active researchers, and they bring what they are doing in their labs into the classroom. From their first introductory class students gain hands-on learning experience building projects and solving real-world problems. The undergraduate experience culminates in a senior design experience that addresses a contemporary research or industry challenge. There are also a number of clubs and organizations within the Department, College and University to round out your College experience.
Faculty act as student advisors beginning in their sophomore year of study. This gives students the opportunity to build relationships with faculty and learn more about the work they are doing and how it impacts the world around them.We encourage our students to take advantage of the full suite of support services offered by the College and the University and to seek ways to be involved in the Department and in the University communities.
Being a student in the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering is a challenging and rewarding pursuit. Students in our department are able to take advantage of a number of opportunities including study abroad, internships, research, and exploring the over 100 minors available across campus.
