• Assistant Teaching Professor Position

    Syracuse University’s Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (BMCE) and Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) seeks to fill a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure-track). This is a joint appointment between the two departments and renewable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate/graduate courses for both departments. It is anticipated that the appointment will begin in Fall 2017.

    The successful candidate will be expected to teach four to six undergraduate/graduate courses per academic year in the general areas of biomedical and chemical engineering as well as mechanical and aerospace engineering. Candidates are preferred with teaching expertise in control systems, dynamics, sensors, microfluidics, microelectromechanical systems, thermodynamics and bioinstrumentation as well as engineering fundamentals. Academic service activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels will also be required. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the Departments’ mission, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; supervision of undergraduate and graduate students; research activities; and service responsibilities.

  • Control Faculty Position

    The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University seeks to fill a faculty position in dynamic systems and control at the rank of assistant professor (tenure track). Applications are invited in all areas of dynamics and control, particularly those that complement current research activities in the department and the college. These research activities include but are not limited to control systems; state estimation and sensor fusion; dynamics; networked control; guidance, navigation and control of unmanned vehicles; and intelligent control of energy and environmental systems.

    The department has close ties with other departments and on-campus multidisciplinary centers like the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (SyracuseCoE) and the Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE).

    Researchers working at these centers are involved in several federally funded projects on topics that include data fusion and mining, communication systems and networks, unmanned and autonomous systems, and intelligent building control. In addition, New York state opportunities include the recent investment of $250 million for unmanned systems and cross-connected platforms in the central New York state region as part of the Upstate Revitalization Initiative, and the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) funding opportunities to develop smart building technologies.

    The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the Department’s mission, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical and aerospace engineering; supervision of undergraduate and graduate students; service responsibilities; and developing an independent, externally funded research program.
