October 28, 2015

Ryan Falkenstein-Smith ’13, a Ph.D. student in the Combustion & Energy Research (COMER) Lab was awarded Best Poster at the Student Research Summit at the General Electric (GE) Global Research site in Niskayuna, N.Y. this summer. His winning poster, “Ceramic Reactor Membrane for Oxy-Fuel Combustion Processes,” details an ongoing project to develop carbon capture technology to offset climate change. The GE Research Summit is a one-day event that gives top graduate students an opportunity to share their work and learn about industrial research projects at GE. Forty students from universities across the country were in attendance this year, including Cornell, MIT, Purdue, RPI, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin, and several others. The event also included professional laboratory tours, discussions with GE science and engineering experts, and networking opportunities.
