Prospective Student FAQS

I would like to know my chance of getting admitted to your program. My GRE, TOEFL, and GPA are the following.

Unfortunately, we can’t answer this question unless you apply and submit all necessary documents.

What is minimum GPA, TOEFL, GRE, etc?

We don’t admit or deny admissions based on a single academic score. We make decisions based on all academic achievements or scores.

Do you have an English program for international students?

Yes, we have an English program for international students and you can visit http://eli.syr.edu for more info. It should be noted that admissions to the ELI program are completely separate from admissions to the EECS department. There is no guarantee that you will be admitted to the EECS department after completing the ELI program.

I would like to update my transcript that is already submitted.

You can contact EECSadmissions@syr.edu for any questions or concerns regarding your submitted transcript.

I do not have a test score (GRE or TOEFL). Can I get a waiver?

Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science is committed to assisting and supporting you in your academic endeavors during these challenging times. As such, the submission of GRE scores is optional for applicants to the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) for Spring 2023 and Fall 2023. Students are encouraged to submit GRE scores if available, but they are not required.

The TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo score is required to demonstrate English proficiency. Only students who have already studied in the US/Canada/UK/Australia are exempt.

What is the deadline for application for MSCS, MSCE, MSEE, and MSCyber?

We have rolling admissions. However, for Fall admissions, we encourage you to apply before April 1 to increase your chance of acceptance. For Spring, you should apply before October 1. Early applications will increase your chances for admissions as well as financial aid (i.e., tuition discount).

Do you accept Spring admissions?

Yes, we accept Spring admissions. See the answer above for fall and spring deadlines.

What are the admission requirements?

We expect all applicants to have a proper academic background for the program they’re applying to.

Do you offer financial aid such as TA or RA for Master’s program students?

MS applicants are considered for a merit scholarship at the time of admission. TA and RA appointments aren’t available in your first semester. Eligible applicants can apply for such appointments in future semesters.

Is it still OK to apply for the next semester?

We have rolling admissions. However, for Fall admissions, we encourage you to apply before April 1 to increase your chance of acceptance. For Spring, you should apply before October 1. Early applications will increase your chances for admissions as well as financial aid (i.e., tuition discount). International students should be mindful of the considerable time it may take for visa processing and apply early.

If I have work experience, would that increase the chance of admission?

We don’t admit or deny admissions based on a single academic score or experience. We make decisions based on all academic achievements or scores. Work experience may be included but that alone does not guarantee admission.

What are the average test scores of GRE and TOEFL for admitted students in the past?

We don’t keep track of past students’ average test scores.

My undergraduate major was not in Computer Science. Would I be admitted?

If your major was not in Computer Science but you want to apply for a master’s program in Computer Science, consider our 3-year MSCS program.
