• Open-Rank Tenure-track Position in Aerospace Engineering

    Syracuse University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position in Aerospace Engineering, commensurate with qualification and experience. The successful candidate is expected to advance the Aerospace Engineering Program by performing world-class research in Aerospace Engineering and by providing excellent instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates who can cover fundamental courses in the general areas of Aerospace Engineering, such as Fluids, Aerospace Structures, Thermal Science, and Space Technologies.
    Applicants must have an earned doctorate, or its professional equivalent, in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field by the date of appointment. It is anticipated that the appointment will begin in Fall 2020. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the Departments’ mission, including sponsored research, teaching, supervision and advising of undergraduate and graduate students, and other service responsibilities.

  • Faculty Position in Materials for Energy Applications

    The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University is seeking applicants in the field of novel material fabrication, synthesis and design (e.g. 2D materials, nanocomposites, self-assembly, photonics, etc.). The Department seeks to fill a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. This recruitment is part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire Initiative in the broad area of Energy and Environment. As an integral part of this investment, Syracuse University will recruit multiple candidates for faculty positions for a research cluster in the focus area of Materials for Energy Conversion and/or Storage. Faculty hired into these positions will build on our existing strengths in the focus area and will participate in an organized research cluster that spans multiple departments in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

    The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the Department’s mission, including development of an independent, externally funded multi-disciplinary research program; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical and aerospace engineering; supervision of graduate and undergraduate students; and service responsibilities. For consideration at the Associate or Full Professor level, the candidate must have demonstrated an appropriate established record of research, teaching and service.

    The Department has close ties with other Departments and on-campus multidisciplinary centers like the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (SyracuseCoE) and the Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE). In addition, New York state opportunities include the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) funding opportunities to develop energy efficient technologies, and the recent investment of $250 million for unmanned systems and cross-connected platforms in the central New York state region as part of the Upstate Revitalization Initiative.
